I want to talk about Weaverbirds today. Not just because their pieces are gorgeous (they are), but because of what they stand for!

I’ve gotten to know the woman who started this brand, and she is one of the most genuinely caring people I’ve come across in this industry. She doesn’t just care about the product she’s making. She cares about the people who make it, and the families who end up wearing it. That intention behind the brand has brought me back time and time again and it shows in everything Weaverbirds creates.

What They Make

Weaverbirds offers a number of things, from handwoven wraps to ring slings and carry loops to little accessories like bird ornaments and baby blankets (and sometimes the most gorgeous throws you’ve ever seen in your life!) Whether you’re looking for a full size woven wrap or just a small accessory to carry a piece of the story with you, there’s an option.

The Ethics Behind the Brand

Weaverbirds is a small, family run social enterprise based out of Uganda. The cotton used in their wraps is grown and harvested locally, then spun and dyed in Kampala before it ever reaches a loom. The cotton itself is certified through the Cotton made in Africa initiative, which supports sustainable farming practices and fair conditions for the farmers growing it.

The weaving happens at a vocational training center in Kampala. This matters more than it might seem- it means experienced weavers earn fair, sustainable wages for their work, and it means newer weavers are getting trained and given real job opportunities. This isn’t a brand sourcing cheap labor and calling it ethical. It’s a brand actively building skills and economic stability for the people behind every wrap.

Every piece is made to last. That’s not just a marketing line. Slow fashion, low waste, and quality construction are woven into how Weaverbirds operates from the field to the finished product. These are wraps meant to be passed down, not replaced every season.

Why It Matters

Babywearing has deep cultural roots all over the world, and woven fabrics in particular carry generations of tradition in how they’re made and used. A brand like Weaverbirds honors that by keeping production rooted in the place and the people the craft comes from, rather than outsourcing it somewhere disconnected from the story.

When you choose a Weaverbirds piece, you’re not just choosing something beautiful to wear your baby in. You’re supporting fair wages, skills training, and a small business that genuinely cares about its impact on the families on both ends, the ones weaving and the ones wearing.

My Own Experience

I don’t say this about every brand I work with, but Weaverbirds has earned my full trust. The quality speaks for itself, and the woman behind it has shown me time and again how much heart she puts into this work. She cares about the baby. She cares about the family. She cares about the weaver who made the wrap that baby is being carried in. That’s the kind of brand worth talking about.
