Woven wraps are a fantastic carrying option. There are so many different brands, weave types, etc and each has their own benefit. There are thin, thick, incredibly cushy or vibrant patterns to choose from.

When looking at woven wraps for the first time, it can feel very intimidating. There are different sizes, fabric types, fabric weights (thickness) and more.

To start, I would highly encourage a new wearer to look for something that is in your base size, 100% cotton and a light to midweight fabric weight. This is often shown with a number followed by GSM. Try finding something between 190-210 for a first time wrap. This isn’t crucial, but can be easier to work with. Also, know that most wovens will need broken in. Don’t be scared when you first get it, it WILL soften up!

General Size Guide

This is just a general guide and doesn’t account for every body type. It’s a good starting place for most people. A base size is the size that fits on your body to do a front wrap cross carry tied in front. It also allows you to do most general full length wrap carries. If you want to do basic sling carries, most people find a size 2 or 3 works best. If you want intricate, fancy wrapping styles, a size or two larger will be better.

Didymos

Didymos is one of the first (or maybe even THE first) modern woven wrap brand. They are one of my first recommendations when it comes to new wearers. I highly recommend taking a look at their options that have a GSM (fabric weight) between 190-220 when beginning your journey. This provides a lightweight option that will work easily from the newborn stage and can be significantly easier to manage. 100% cotton is also going to be the easiest option to start with. These have a grippier feel and are fairly soft from first use. They do have one of the shorter break in periods compared to other brands. They can be purchased through Little Zen One if you live in the US or Canada. They are a great retailer that provides options from around the world. Oscha Slings

Oscha Slings provides ethically made wraps and other fun items from machine woven fabrics. From their own website, “Our fabrics are woven in the British Isles from ethically and responsibly sourced yarns before they are lovingly handcrafted into baby slings in our solar-powered Scottish workshop. Responsible production is at the heart of Oscha, we love our planet and want to keep it beautiful for generations to come.” They tend to feature bright and vibrant color patterns. The fabric tends to have a little more slip (feels almost silky) in comparison to some others. LETSTALK23 for 10% off.

Leora

La Ruche Leora provides high end woven wraps made with ethics as a top priority. The quality and cushion of these wraps is truly on another level. I worked with them to design the Aquarelle Pomegranate Flight wovens fabrics. They currently have a ring sling available HERE. They have a variety of patterns and weave types, but their triple twill weave is one of the most incredible wraps that I’ve used when it comes to a super cushy, soft feel that is still easy to use. It feels rich and quality, with an incredible softness that is hard to describe. It feels like a cushy blanket you’ll want to wrap both you and your baby in.
